You can receive the same quality medications from doctors or nurse practitioners from Roman with much better price. But before we dive into that, let us find out what erectile dysfunction is and how you can treat it.

What is Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction or ED is having a hard time getting or maintaining an erection. Sometimes it is tough to talk about ED, but you are not alone.

ED is way more common than you think. Here we are showing three different studies and the commonality of ED in each study.

Study number 1:  in a 2019 study, scientists found between 3 and 76.5% of men experience ED at some point in their life globally.

Study number 2: covers 27000 men from 8 different countries, researchers found that out of every 100 men with ED problems, only 58 was looking for treatment. Young men are not immune to ED either. The same study found around 8% of men between 20-29 and 11% of men between 30-39 were experiencing ED.

Study number 3: It was shown that over 50% of men in America were experiencing ED between 40 and 70.

How to Treat ED? Roman vs. Viagra

ED treatment is actually easier than you think. As you know, there are several medications available on the market. Viagra (the most known pill), Cialis, Levitra, and Sildenafil are a few of the medicines you can take for ED treatment. They all belong to the same class of drugs called phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors (PDE-5 inhibitors).

When medications are in the same category, it means that they work similarly. With all PDE-5 inhibitors, they increase the blood flow to the penis by relaxing the muscles, and that’s how they treat ED. Viagra, Sildenafil, Cialis (generic name Tadalafil), and Levitra (generic name Vardenafil) are all PDE-5 inhibitors.

What are PDE-5 Inhibitors?

Getting an erection may seem easy, but in reality, many things have to work simultaneously in your body for the erection to happen. There are psychological aspects and biological aspects, and when something goes wrong, and you can’t get hard, then PDE-5 inhibitors can help.

For an erection to happen, the PDE-5 enzyme needs to break down the cGMP in the body. Before erection, this enzyme tells the erectile tissued to relax so blood flow can get into the penis. While this is happening, the vessels that take the blood out of your penis get compressed, so more blood gets trapped in the penis. If both of these actions happen simultaneously and correctly, then one may get an erection.

Unfortunately, this is not the case all the time and. If you have too much PDE-5 or if it acts too soon, then the cGMP enzyme cannot work correctly.

From Wikipedia: “PDE5 inhibitors prolong the action of cGMP by inhibiting its degradation by the enzyme PDE5, which is found throughout the body. In the penis, PDE5 inhibitors potentiate the effects of cGMP to prolong erections and increase sexual satisfaction. However, PDE5 inhibitors do not cause erections without sexual stimulation”.

Even though these medicines act the same way, there is some difference between them, and that’s why your healthcare providers may prescribe one over another. The main reason for receiving one pill vs. another is your lifestyle.

Roman offers most of the medications mentioned above, but to determine which one fits you best, let’s compare Roman vs. Viagra.

What is Viagra?

Viagra is the first FDA approved product for ED treatment, which has been manufactured and sold by Pfizer. It was initially developed to treat a specific type of high blood pressure, but participants in the study found that they have an easier time getting an erection, and that is how Viagra was born to treat ED. In 1998, the FDA approved the blue pill, and by the end of 2005, more than 27 million men used Viagra worldwide.

Viagra is an oral medication with Sildenafil as its active ingredient and comes in 25mg, 50mg, and 75 mg doses. It would be best if you took Viagra on an empty stomach.  When starting to take the medication, your doctor usually begins with a 50mg dose (as the middle one) and will increase or decree the dose according to its effects.

Based on your weight, age, health, and diet, it may take somewhere between 12 to 30 minutes for Viagra to become active in the body. The peak level of Viagra in your body is usually after 30 min to 2 hrs. And it can last in your body for up to 5 hours.

Viagra side effect:

Like any other medication, you may experience some side effects. Some of the common side effects are headache, facial flushing, indigestion, stuffy nose, or back pain. There are some uncommon side effects such as priapism, a painful and persistent erection lasting several hours. Some other serious side effects such as hearing loss, vision loss, severe low blood pressure may also occur. Contact your health care provider immediately if you experience any of the side effects.

You should not take Viagra if you have high or low blood pressure, heart attack history, or had chest pain before.

What Is Sildenafil?

Sildenafil is the active ingredient in Viagra. It is FDA approved, and besides treating ED, it is also being prescribed for pulmonary arterial hypertension or PAH. A condition in which the patient has higher than normal blood pressure in blood vessels that carry blood from their heart to their lungs.  Revatio is the medication with Sildenafil as its active ingredient to treat PAH.

The main difference between Revatio and other Sildenafil based medications that are approved for ED treatment is dosage. Revatio only comes in one dose, which is 20 mg. Generic Revatio (which has Sildenafil as an active ingredient) can be used off-label to treat ED. Generic Revatio can be prescribed in various doses, such as 40mg, 60mg, 80mg, and 100 mg.

If Revatio is used for ED treatment, it is easier to adjust the dosage to get the maximum effect for easy erection while minimizing potential side effects.

What is Cialis?

Cialis is another common medication for ED treatment. The generic name for Cialis is Tadalafil. Cialis and Tadalafil both work similar to Viagra, and they are PDE-5 inhibitors. They help with getting and keeping the erection and also improving the blood flow.

Cialis available doses are 2.5mg. 5gm 10 mg and 25 mg. Cialis is called a weekender pill because its effect can last up to 36 hours. Unlike Viagra that usually works in 30 minutes, you need to take Cialis about an hour or two before starting to have sex. Cialis is prescribed medicine, and you can take it as needed for ED treatment. With 2.5 mg and 5mg dosage, you can take them daily, eliminating planning for sex as you are always ready!

Similar to Viagra, it may have some side effects such as sudden vision loss or priapism. Since Tadalafil is generic from Cialis, it works the same way but can be purchased at a lower price.

What is Levitra?

Levitra (generic version Vardenafil) is also another PDE-5 inhibitor used for erectile dysfunction treatment. You can take Levitra as needed before having sex, similar to Viagra, Cialis, and Sildenafil. There are four doses available for Levitra, which include 2.5mg, 5mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg.

There are a few differences between Levitra and other ED medications. Unlike other pills, the effect of Levitra can last up to 8 hours, and you can also take Levitra with food (of course, you should avoid high-fat meals like a cheeseburger, which can delay the effect and absorption of the medicine).

Like Viagra and others, the potential side effects include facial flushing, nasal congestion, and upset stomach. Priapism and sudden loss of vision are also uncommon, but possible side effects of Levitra.

Roman Sildenafil vs. Viagra

After the Viagra patent expired, several companies started manufacturing generic Viagra or simply Sildenafil. Sildenafil first became available in December of 2017.

Viagra and Sildenafil are bioequivalent, which means they have the same ingredient, work the same way in the body. The significant difference between them is their dosage and cost. Also, the generic version may not be manufactured by Pfizer.

Sildenafil is at least four times cheaper than the branded Viagra. On average, Sildenafil can save you around $50 per pill. If you need six tablets per month, if you choose Sildenafil, your cost is about $300 less.

Here is the screenshot of Viagra (brand) cost vs. its generic one (Sildenafil). This is taken from the Blue Cross Blue Shield website.

Viagra vs Sildenafil

Like Viagra, Most Roman products do not make a spontaneous erection. You need to be sexually excited, and Viagra or Roman ED products can help you with the erection.

Roman Sildenafil vs. Viagra, which one to pick?

Roman Sildenafil, generic Viagra, and Viagra have the same active ingredient and help with ED in a very similar way. Since the active ingredient in all three is the same, they also have similar potential side effects.

Some of their side effects include but are not limited to priapism and painful erection that can last for more than four hours. You should not take any of these medications if you are currently prescribed nitrate medicine.

Since the effectiveness is similar, the main difference is the cost. A Viagra tablet can cost you around $70 vs. the generic one costs you about $2.

Depending on your budget and insurance, you can decide which one you would like to take. It would help if you consult with your healthcare provider about different dosages.

Roman Cialis vs. Viagra, which one to pick?

Even though Cialis and Viagra are both PDE-5 inhibitors, and their action mechanism is similar, they have some differences.

If you are more of a spontaneous person when it comes to sex, then Cialis is a better choice as you can take it on a low dose every day and don’t need to plan for your erection. On the other hand, if you are more of a planner in your sexual life, you can use Viagra.

Roman Levitra vs. Viagra, which one to pick?

Between Levitra and Viagra, Levitra has a longer duration of action, meaning that you have a lot longer hours to have sex, or if you want to have multiple erections within few hours, then Levitra is the one.

On the other hand, Viagra is a faster acting medication. So, depending on your needs, you can pick the one that fits your lifestyle best.

Viagra vs. Sildenafil vs. Cialis vs. Levitra, which one cost less?

Sildenafil is the least expensive, and Viagra is the most costly medications for ED treatment. Between Sildenafil, Cialis, and Levitra, the latter is the more expensive one.

Even though the price is an essential factor, you should also consider other factors such as your lifestyle. For example, how long and how often you want to have sex, or would you show an interest in a daily medication and be ready all the time or plan for your intimacy beforehand and have your pill ready for the time you want to get hard.

Roman vs. Viagra, which one between the two do you prefer? As always, the decision is yours!
